Which cage trailer do you need?

Both are 8x5 galvanised box trailers with a cage on top, and both cost the same. Take the ramp trailer if you're loading anything on wheels.

The everyday trailer for tip runs, garden clean-ups, rubbish removal and small moves. A 600mm cage sits on 300mm sides to hold green waste and taller loads, and the tub tilts by hand so loose loads slide out at the tip.

Easy to tow

Hitch up and go

Fully loaded, these trailers weigh no more than 750kg, so they don't need brakes. There's no brake controller, no app to pair and nothing to set up beyond the flat 7-pin plug. They're easy to reverse and park, even if you don't tow often.

The ramp lets you wheel a mower, barrow or motorbike straight in. The standard 8x5 tilts by hand, so green waste and loose rubbish slide out the back at the tip.

Moving soil, rock or a big pile of rubble? You'll hit the weight limit fast in a cage trailer. A hydraulic tipper carries up to 2,500kg and lifts the load out for you. See the tippers →

How much can I put in it?

Up to 450kg in the standard 8x5 and 400kg in the ramp trailer. Green waste, cardboard and household rubbish are light, so you can fill it to the top of the cage.

Soil, sand, gravel and concrete are heavy, so a few barrow loads can reach the limit well before the trailer looks full.

Will my car tow it?

Loaded, these trailers weigh no more than 750kg, which is within the unbraked towing limit of most cars with a towbar. Some small cars are rated lower, so check the unbraked figure in your owner's manual or on the towbar plate before you book.

FAQs

Cage trailer questions

Is it a box trailer or a cage trailer?

Both. They're 8x5 box trailers with a 600mm galvanised cage on top, so you get a standard box trailer with higher sides for green waste and taller loads.

Which one should I book?

Book the ramp trailer if you're loading anything on wheels, like a mower, wheelbarrow or motorbike. For tip runs, garden clean-ups and moving boxes, either one does the job at the same price.

Do I need trailer brakes or a brake controller?

No. Both trailers are 750kg ATM, so they don't have brakes and there's nothing to wire into your car or pair with an app. Just plug in the flat 7-pin.

What if my car has a round plug?

Our trailers use a flat 7-pin plug. If your car has a round socket, add a round-to-flat 7-pin adapter when you book.

How far ahead should I book?

Weekends are busiest, so book Friday to Sunday hires a few days ahead. Weekday hires can often be booked the same day, and the booking page shows live availability.

Do I need to cover the load?

Yes. Green waste, rubbish and anything loose has to be covered or tied down so nothing blows out on the road, so bring a tarp or cargo net.

Are straps included?

No. Hire covers the trailer only. You can add a set of four ratchet tie-downs for $12 when you book, or bring your own.

Is there a bond or deposit?

No. You pay for the hire by card when you book, and nothing is held.

Can I pick up or return it at night?

Yes. Pickup and return are self-serve 24/7, so you can get to the tip first thing or bring it back after a late finish.

Do I need to clean it before I bring it back?

Yes. Bring it back empty, swept and rinsed out, so it's ready for the next person. If you'd rather skip it, add the $75 cleaning option when you book.

What do I need to hire it?

Your physical driver's licence, a car with a towbar, and a card to pay. Your first booking includes a one-off licence check that takes about a minute.

Where do I pick it up?
